Chill City

Thursday & Friday, 7-19 & 7-20

For the last two days we’ve been resting and catching up here in Dawson City. We’ve worked on the blog, washed the Cheap Jeep (no small undertaking), fixed things, and recuperated before the next leg of our journey, which will actually take us into Alaska. We've also given each other haircuts (pictures to follow).

Speaking of the Cheap Jeep, I promised to explain why we gave it that name. At the time we bought it, we lived in Santa Cruz, CA, and I was working in LA. We needed a third car, wanted a rag-top, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money. The CJ was the Sunday Advertised Special at the local Jeep store—“ONLY ONE AT THIS PRICE!” It was the car from which they expected to step up everyone. It has virtually no deluxe features, the cheapest wheels, the cheapest radio, the smallest engine, doesn’t have power locks, power mirrors, or power anything. It’s about as basic as you can find, and it was advertised at a really CHEAP price. We had to fight to convince the dealer we wanted it, and the guy who sold it to us probably got fired, but we bought it right and it’s been good to us.
