Saturday 8/18
This morning I blog, and then we make our way into Fairbanks. Since we are back in civilization, we head to the Rivers Edge RV Park. This is probably the best “pay-for” place we’ve stayed on the trip. We’re a stone’s throw from the banks of the Chena River, one of the rivers around which Fairbanks is built. There are trees, and because the place is only partially occupied, we’re nicely separated from our neighbors. We’ve got cable TV and a pretty good internet connection. If we must be back among the maddening throngs, this is about as good as it gets.
Since you are all quite familiar with the trappings of the modern world, we’ve got nothing else to report…except that our guidebook says that Fairbanks has the among the world’s largest temperature variations—as low as 50° below in the winter and as high as 100° in the summer—yikes!
